Reconciling Divorce and Marriage Vows

All of our marriage vows sounded something like this:

“I, ____, take you, ____, to be my lawfully wedded (husband/wife), to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part.”

Then the priest or pastor will say aloud, “What God has joined, men must not divide.”
