Breakups Force Us to Choose Between Anger and Peace

If You Keep Doing the Same Thing, You Should Expect the Same Result.

Breakups Force Us to Choose Between Anger and Peace

“You act on the outside how you feel on the inside.” Tracy McMillan

We’ve all been there.

We’ve been in a relationship with someone that we cared about deeply.

In my life, I have been hurt and I have also hurt others. I have had breakups where I was sad and lost and others where I was mad as hell.

When relationships end and hearts are broken, it can be a painful place to exist. We try to make sense of it, determining who was right and who was wrong and looking for some kind of closure. Most of ...continue reading...

How I Lost Myself and Found My Fire

“Passion is the oxygen of the soul.” Bill Butler

Fire is life; but my fire was almost completely extinguished; only a few embers remained.

I had been married for 11 years to a perfectly good man. He had a good job, worked out, watched football and had good relationships with his family. He packed his lunch every day, ironed his clothes on Sunday for the week ahead, said, “please” and “thank you.”

I distracted myself with my career and put my marriage on auto pilot.

I did all the things I was supposed to do and had all the ...continue reading...

There’s Nothing to Prove

“The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off.”   Gloria Steinam

For as long as I can recall in my entire professional adult life, I always had a plan and something that I was striving toward. When I was a Marketing Manager, I quickly set my sights on being a Senior Marketing Manager. I went part-time to get my MBA and was promoted to Director of Marketing by the age of 27. I then wanted to be a VP and then ultimately a Chief Marketing Officer by the time I was 40.

I worked hard, ...continue reading...

Should I Stay or Should I Go?

“One of the hardest decisions you’ll ever face in life is choosing to walk away or try harder.”   Ziad K. Abdelnour

Some really interesting things happen when I share my story in a public way.

Many women step forward and say, “Me too; that’s my story. I also was in a marriage where there was very little connection or passion.” It’s a beautiful gift to know that we’re not alone and that whatever we’re going through, someone else out there has also had that experience.

But many women also tentatively approach me seeking an answer to their very personal ...continue reading...

Breakups are a Gift

“Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness. It took me years to understand that this too, was a gift.” Mary Oliver

When hearts are broken, it hurts. I’ve lost jobs. I’ve lost friendships. I’ve lost my footing, but nothing kicked me in the stomach and opened me up the way a broken heart did.

I know what it’s like to get your heart broken. I know what it’s like to not quite know where your broken heart ends and your own brokenness begins. I know what it feels like to want an unworkable relationship to ...continue reading...

Living in the Light

“When you possess light within, you see it externally.” Anaïs Nin

I had lunch with a dear friend this week and he was sharing with me the experience he had recently at Yosemite National Park with his partner and children. His enthusiasm about the Giant Sequoias they saw and the majesty and magic they experienced on their trip all brought chills to me.

As he was talking, the life coach in me couldn’t resist the beautiful metaphor that nature provides to us for our lives.

Sequoias are one of the most massive trees that exist in the world and ...continue reading...

The Breakthrough after a Breakup

“Each of our paths is uniquely perfect. Life presents us with what we need to grow.” Judith Orloff, M.D. The Ecstasy of Surrender

She was crying daily, uncontrollably, in front of clients and behind closed doors. It had been several weeks since her breakup and she was feeling so out of control with her emotions that she thought she needed to be put away somewhere.

They had been together for 7 years and he had been emotionally manipulative towards her. His words weren’t matching his actions. Promising love and a future together, but then only giving her emotional crumbs. ...continue reading...

3 Things My Husband has Taught Me about Love

“Soul connections don’t happen every day. When you find one, be grateful. They are gifts. Accept them graciously. The love you’ve been wishing for is here.” Judith Orloff, M.D.

I am a teacher; therefore, I am a lifelong learner. In order to be a great coach and speaker, I have to be continuously learning and challenging myself so that I can serve my clients at my highest level.

I just finished one book and I am in the middle of 3 other books. I just completed 3 online training programs, am in the process of one certification and am ...continue reading...

It’s the Crazy Crap that Makes Me Laugh and Love Them Even More

“If love is the treasure, laughter is the key.” Yakov Smirnoff

Somewhere – out there- there is a small, little, narrow box that people live in. I tease my brother about his box because he doesn’t like to travel outside of Ohio or even drive downtown. My parents think that because I do yoga and practice meditation that I must be worshipping idols. There are days I wonder how I was born into this family and it makes me laugh.

I make light of the fact that I’m a recovering Catholic because I’m a divorced, gay-loving, open-hearted, woman that ...continue reading...

5 Powerful Lessons about Healing a Broken Heart

“God pulls us through life by the heart.” Martha Beck

As I’ve been building my life coaching practice, I’ve become very clear on who it is I want to serve. The truth is that the people I can help the most are people who are going through something in their lives that I’ve also experienced and come through myself.

That’s why I have a special place in my heart for people who are healing a broken heart.

I have had my heart broken and I have broken hearts – both experiences sucked (quite frankly!). I got emotionally lost for a bit, ...continue reading...
